Bobby Slayton (@PitbullofComedy) / X
In 1987, I had my first acting job in a CBS pilot called King of the Building. Richard Lewis was my co-star, and he was fantastic. I was okay. But the experience was exhilarating and something I’ll never forget. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity, even though the show didn’t make it to the air. It was a great learning experience and a chance to work with an iconic comedian like Richard Lewis.
This was a pivotal moment in my career. I was still finding my footing as a comedian, but working on a pilot, even if it wasn’t picked up, showed me that I could handle the pressure of a professional set. The experience also pushed me to work harder and refine my craft. I learned so much from observing Richard Lewis on set, his timing, his delivery, his comedic genius. It was a masterclass in stand-up comedy. It was definitely a challenge for a young comedian like me, but I embraced it and learned a lot from the process.
